Giuseppe Iachini given vote of confidence by Palermo's Zamparini

Palermo president Maurizio Zamparini has given coach Giuseppe Iachini a vote of confidence while ordering the team into a training camp at his home.

Sunday's 4-2 defeat at home to Roma was the Rosaneri's fourth straight loss, leaving them 13th in Serie A, a point behind Juventus and just three ahead of the relegation zone.

That poor form has convinced Zamparini that the team needs a wake-up call, and he is set to deliver it.

"At the moment, Palermo are the worst team in Serie A," he told Gr Parlamento radio. "I've told the coach and he agrees. It seems like the Palermo from last season, when I brought all of the players home with me for a training camp.

"I'm going to do the same now. We'll see if we can find the right medicine to turn things around."

Palermo started the season with two wins and a draw from their first three matches, but things have gone awry since then. Defeats to AC Milan, Sassuolo, Torino and Roma have seen the Sicilians slide down the table, but Zamparini is not going to pin the blame on his coach.

The president has developed a reputation for hiring and firing coaches regularly, but he is continuing to make an exception with Iachini, who has now been in office for over two years.

"We had a chat for a quarter of an hour and he's going to come home with me too so we can talk every day," Zamparini added. "It's a bad period for us and we would only make things worse by sacking the coach. We've got to bounce back, like we did last year. Palermo are not a poor side, even [Roma's sporting director Walter] Sabatini told me.

"Our game against Bologna is not going to be decisive for Iachini. We're going to stay up with this coach and enjoy a good season."

Zamparini did not return that compliment to Roma, saying that they "are not the best team" in Serie A this season.

"Fiorentina are better, but Napoli are going to win the Scudetto," he added. "Milan, meanwhile, are like Jose Mourinho's Chelsea -- it's just one of those moments, but [Sinisa] Mihajlovic is a great coach and he has a new squad which has just got to gel."
