Osasuna beat Girona to earn La Liga return via playoffs

Osasuna returned to the Primera Division after a two-season absence with a 1-0 win at Girona in the second leg of their promotion playoff final.

The Pamplona club, who finished in sixth place in the Segunda Division, held a 2-1 advantage from the first leg at El Sadar.

Forward Kenan Kodro scored a crucial away goal on 48 minutes, with the Rojillos holding out for a comfortable aggregate victory as Girona finished with 10 men when defender Florian Lejeune was sent off late on for a second caution.

Osasuna will now join champions Alaves and Leganes in La Liga for the 2016-17 campaign.

They were relegated from La Liga in 2014 and after avoiding a second demotion in as many seasons by a single point last campaign they recovered to finish in the final playoff spot on goal difference this time and earn an unlikely promotion.
