Orlando City SC to rest Brek Shea (groin injury) for at least 10 days

Orlando City SC will rest Brek Shea for at least 10 days before re-evaluating an adductor muscle injury the winger picked up during training for the United States' friendly with the Netherlands earlier this month.

Shea, who was left off the United States' Gold Cup squad because of the groin issue, played through the injury in the Amsterdam friendly but did not take part in the following fixture against Germany.

Upon his return from international duty, Shea has attempted to play through the pain, logging 90 minutes in each of Orlando's subsequent two MLS matches. But he couldn't finish a third, coming off before half-time against Colorado on Wednesday.

The Orlando medical staff has yet to articulate a plan of action for his recovery. However the franchise hopes Shea will be back in time to help them through the second half of the campaign.

"It just consistently got worse," Shea told the Orlando Sentinel of the injury. "I've been playing and running at 70 percent, not even. So I wanted to do something and not have it become a serious, season-long type of injury. ... Hopefully whatever we do can sort it out. I've had this injury before, and if you don't take care of it, it can last a long time."

After a slow start to their inaugural MLS season, Orlando City SC currently sit third in the Eastern Conference with 23 points.
