Olympiakos sack coach Victor Sanchez after Champions League failure

Olympiakos have sacked coach Victor Sanchez after less than two months in charge.

The Spaniard was named as the successor to title-winning boss Marco Silva on June 23, but the Greek champions have now decided to part company with the former Deportivo La Coruna manager.

The move comes after Olympiakos were last week knocked out of the Champions League third qualifying round by Hapoel Beer-Sheva following a 1-0 aggregate defeat.

A club statement read: "Olympiakos announces the termination of the collaboration with coach Victor Sanchez. The club thanks him and wishes him every success in the future.''

Former Spain international Sanchez, who was in charge of Deportivo last season but was sacked following a 15th-placed finish in La Liga, was previously an assistant coach at Olympiakos under Michel.

Olympiakos, who have struggled for wins during preseason, face Arouca in the first leg of their Europa League playoff before beginning the defence of their Super League title against Asteras Tripolis on Aug. 21.
