Tax officials withdraw petition to wind up Notts County

Tax officials have withdrawn a bid to wind up Notts County.

On Monday, England's oldest football league club featured in a list of companies facing winding-up orders as a result of owing money at a specialist court in London.

HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) had launched a winding-up petition against the Magpies, formed in 1862 and currently sixth in the League Two table.

But a lawyer representing tax officials asked a judge -- Registrar Christine Derrett -- to dismiss the petition at a hearing in the Bankruptcy and Companies Court.

No detail of money the club had been alleged to owe was given at the hearing, which lasted less than a minute.
