Michael O'Neill has said he could remain in charge of Northern Ireland after next summer's European Championship in France.

O'Neill, 46, guided Northern Ireland to qualification for the finals, ending a 30-year absence from tournament football.

The former Shamrock Rovers boss, appointed to the national job in 2011, is out of contract at the end of the tournament.

But although he has made it clear he wants to return to club coaching at some point, he told BBC Northern Ireland: "It is dangerous if you look too far ahead in football, and my focus at the moment is on preparing the squad for the Euros.

"I have had discussions with the IFA [Irish Football Association] and they have all been very positive -- hopefully between now and the early part of the new year those discussions will remain positive and I am the manager going forward.

"But for now, it is time to let us enjoy where we are. Let's look forward to the tournament and go there to give a great account of ourselves."
