Raul extends career with winner for New York Cosmos in NASL final

Raul scored the winning goal to extend his storied career by one more game as the New York Cosmos beat the Fort Lauderdale Strikers 2-1 in the NASL semifinals on Saturday.

The former Real Madrid striker, who is retiring after the season, scored with a left-footed shot in the 61st minute that went in off the post.

"We had a lot of chances before I scored," Raul said. "I scored one goal more and this team is playing for the final.

"The second half was much better for us. This goal was one very good combination for the whole team."

Fort Lauderdale had opened the scoring in the 16th minute before Gaston Cellerino scored with his shin to equalize in the 37th minute.

The top-seeded Cosmos will face the winner of Sunday's game between the Ottawa Fury and Minnesota United in the final next weekend.

"It's a dream to finish my career in one final with the New York Cosmos," Raul said.
