Omeruo completes loan to Leganes

Nigeria international defender Kenneth Omeruo completed a season-long loan from Chelsea to Spanish side CD Leganes on Wednesday.

The 2013 Africa Cup of Nations winner, who has yet to make an official Chelsea appearance since joining the London side in 2012, penned an extension for an undisclosed duration to his existing deal before completing his move to La Liga.

A statement on the Chelsea website confirmed the temporary departure of the player.

"Kenneth Omeruo will spend the 2018/19 season on loan at Leganes in the Spanish top flight.

The 24-year-old central defender, who can also play at right-back, moved to Stamford Bridge from Standard Liege in 2012.

Omeruo spent last season on loan at Turkish side Kasimpasa, where he made 28 appearances and was named in the Nigeria squad for this summer's World Cup.

He started two matches during the tournament, against Iceland and Argentina, and will now join La Liga side Leganes, who are managed by former Southampton boss Mauricio Pellegrino."

Omeruo becomes the second Nigeria international to depart Chelsea on a season-long loan within a space of a few hours following Ola Aina's transfer to Torino, and joins international teammate Moses Simon of Levante in the Spanish top flight.

The switch to Leganes represents a seventh loan deal for the 40- cap international, having earlier represented ADO Den Haag, Middlesbrough, Kasimpasa, and Alanyaspor whilst on the books of Chelsea.
