Nigeria's Moses Simon ruled out of World Cup

Moses Simon has been ruled out of Nigeria's World Cup after suffering an injury that is expected to sideline him for at least three weeks.

Simon limped out of Thursday morning's training session in Uyo, and following a scan in Port Harcourt on Friday, Nigeria coach Gernot Rohr told reporters that the forward's World Cup dreams are over.

"Unfortunately, Moses is injured and our medical staff told me that it at least three or four weeks he is out," Rohr began, "which means that it is confirmed that he will be out of the World Cup."

It is heartbreaking news for KAA Gent's Simon, who was one of the certainties to be in Rohr's final squad of 23 before the injury.

By contrast, Wilfred Ndidi is coming to the end of a special programme designed - in consultation with Leicester City - to speed up his rehabilitation, and should be primed to rejoin the group from Monday.

"Ndidi has to follow a special programme because we want to have him at hundred percent fitness," Rohr added. "Until [Monday] he will follow that programme.

"After that, he will return to the group."

The Super Eagles are set to contest an international friendly against the Democratic Republic of Congo on Monday before facing England at Wembley on June 2.
