Bauchi state government sacks Wikki Tourists management

Following the dismal performance of state funded club Wikki Tourists in the on-going 2016/17 Nigeria Professional Football League and CAF Confederation Cup, Bauchi State Governor Mohammed Abubakar on Monday fired the management and coaches of the team.

Abubakar had in March warned the Isa Motori-led board they would be sacked if the team did not improve before April. Their fortunes haven't changed, taking a downward turn, as they sit 19th on the 20-team league table.

Abubakar also sacked the coaching staff headed by Mbwas Mangut and asked coaches from the state to be in charge of the team until a substantive manager is appointed.

The Press Secretary to the governor, Mr. Abubakar Al-Sadique, confirmed the sacking of the board and coaches in a statement on Monday.

The statement read in part, "The governor gave Wikki Tourists the support they needed to make Bauchi proud, and assured them that he was ready to do more for the club."
