Nice to play Ligue 1 game behind closed doors after fan trouble

Nice have been ordered to play a Ligue 1 game behind closed doors after their fans again stepped out of line.

The Tribune Populaire Sud of Nice's Allianz Riviera stadium had already been threatened with closure following unsavoury incidents following the club's Ligue 1 meeting with Bastia in October.

After the "use of very many flares" by the same section of the ground during the derby with Marseille in mid-January, the French Football League's (LFP) Disciplinary Commission decided on Thursday that Nice would have to close their entire stadium for one league match.

That encounter is likely to be Nice's game with Guingamp on March 13.

The sanction comes just a month after Le Monde reported the National Division for the Fight against Hooliganism (DNLH) had witnessed a significant increase in arrests around or in stadia in France's two professional leagues this season.

Some 351 people have been taken into police custody, largely due to offences relating to the use of flares, which is an increase of 100 arrests at the same stage of last season.
