Jonas Gutierrez says Newcastle 'weren't very honest' with him

Former Newcastle midfielder Jonas Gutierrez is unhappy with the way his exit from the Northeast club was handled, and claims his former team lacked honestly in their dealings.

Ex-Magpies defender Ryan Taylor revealed last month that he and Gutierrez both discovered that they were to be released by Newcastle via the same phone call.

Gutierrez, who battled back from testicular cancer to score the goal that helped keep Newcastle from relegation last season, was unimpressed with episode at the time. And speaking to TyCSports in Argentina on Wednesday, the 32-year-old winger further expressed his disappointment with how it all went down.

"Things weren't done in the best way, they weren't very honest ... they didn't do things like I would have hoped, but that's now done and I'm looking forward," he said.

Jonas, who is currently training at Velez Sarsfield in hopes of signing with a European club for this season, was asked about the emotional impact of the episode in England.

"It's bothersome because I don't think it was the right way [to let me go], but that's it. I'm looking forward and I feel comfortable training, I feel good physically, one can't look back, only forward, and give importance to the present.

"The most important thing is to continue building up my fitness with the idea of being able to return to Europe."
