John Carver: Newcastle need to find solutions after another defeat

Newcastle United head coach John Carver was left to rue more defensive failings as his side slipped to a sixth Premier League defeat in a row.

The Magpies lost 3-1 at home to Tottenham, despite giving themselves hope when Jack Colback made it 1-1 within seconds of the second half starting.

But goals from Christian Eriksen and Harry Kane added to Nacer Chadli's opener to take the three points to north London, and Carver said: "It was a huge kick in the teeth at home when you fight your way back into the game when we really haven't been in the game.

"It's disappointing, but there's enough experience in the dressing room to deal with the situation.

"We've had a good conversation, even the injured lads were in there along with all the staff, and we need to come up with a solution and hopefully we can find that."

He said a switch to a more attacking style could help Newcastle out of the doldrums, adding: "It's my job now to find a solution, to find a way of playing where I can get two strikers on the pitch.

"The only way you're going to win games is by scoring goals."

Carver said: "I'm not going to shirk anything. I'll take the stick and I'll take the responsibility.

"Yes, I'm angry and I'm annoyed, and I've got my own thoughts in my head that will stay private. But I have just got to get on with it."
