Frank de Boer open to Newcastle manager job, Tim Sherwood not keen

Ajax coach Frank de Boer has said he is interested in the Newcastle job, but Tim Sherwood has ruled himself out of the running for the vacant post.

Newcastle are seeking a new permanent manager after Alan Pardew's departure to Crystal Palace this month, with John Carver currently in caretaker charge.

De Boer has impressed while in charge of Ajax, leading them to four consecutive Eredivisie titles, although his side are currently second in the table, four points behind PSV Eindhoven.

The former Netherlands international, who was linked with the Liverpool job in December, has suggested he is open to an approach from Newcastle, but would not leave Ajax midway through the campaign.

"I have everything open," De Boer is quoted as saying by The Guardian. "But I will be ready that's for sure.

"I only said if they asked I don't go now because I am with Ajax and I don't want to go halfway through a season while also stepping into a team that are already halfway too. So, for me, if there will be a chance it is always in the new season."

Meanwhile, former Tottenham boss Sherwood has told talkSPORT he is not keen on the position at St James' Park

Sherwood said: "This one, for me, is not something I will be interested in.

"I want to make sure the next one [managerial job] is going to be the right one. I want to be picky, I want to be picking the right one.

"I am still a young manager and I think there is plenty of time for me. I don't want to rush back into the first job [offered]. I'm desperate to get back in but I'm not desperate for anything."
