New York Red Bulls sign defender Tim Parker to three-year deal

The New York Red Bulls have signed defender Tim Parker to a new three-year contract, the team announced on Wednesday.

According to his agent, Parker's salary will be worth $2.4 million over the course of the deal.

Parker, 25, is coming off an outstanding season, his first with the Red Bulls. Combining with MLS Defender of the Year Aaron Long in the center of the Red Bulls' defense, Parker made 33 league and playoff appearances and helped New York to an MLS-best 33 goals allowed during the regular season.

Including the playoffs, he scored two goals and added two assists.

A native of Hicksville, New York, Parker had spent the previous three seasons with the Vancouver Whitecaps where he made 81 league and playoff appearances, scoring one goal. He played collegiately at St. John's University.

At international level, Parker has made two appearances for the U.S. national team.
