New York Red Bulls re-sign Shaun Wright-Phillips

The New York Red Bulls have re-signed midfielder Shaun Wright-Phillips after declining to pick up his contract option at the end of last season.

The club also announced the signings of midfielders Mike Grella and Sal Zizzo, and goalkeeper Luis Robles to multi-year contracts on Monday, while also confirming the release of goalkeeper Santiago Castano.

He has previously spent time at Queens Park Rangers, Manchester City and Chelsea, and has been awarded 36 caps for England.

"We are happy to bring Shaun back and to sign three of our key core players to new multi-year contracts," Red Bulls sporting director Ali Curtis said of the signings.

Shaun Wright-Phillips joined the Red Bulls in July of 2015, and appeared in 12 games for the club.

He is the brother of Red Bulls striker Bradley Wright-Phillips, who led the league with an MLS-record 27 goals during the 2014 season.

Robles was named MLS Goalkeeper of the Year in 2015 after breaking a number of club records in goal last season, and is currently training with the United States at their preseason camp in Carson, California.

Grella had passages through Leeds United as well as the Carolina RailHawks of the NASL, and took part in 33 of the Red Bulls' 34 regular season games last campaign.

Zizzo moved to the Red Bulls from New York City FC in 2014, appearing in 22 games last season.

The details of the transactions were not made available, per MLS policy.
