Dane Richards signs deal to return to Red Bulls, who waive Armando

HARRISON, N.J. -- Former New York Red Bulls midfielder Dane Richards is back with the team.

The Major League Soccer club announced Saturday that they had signed Richards and waived defender Armando. But details on Richards' contract were not disclosed.

A native of Jamaica, Richards had spent the preseason with the Red Bulls.

The 31-year-old Richards initially was drafted out of Clemson University by New York in 2007 and spent five years with the club before he was traded to Vancouver in the summer of 2012. At the end of that season, he went to Europe and played in England and Norway.

The 30-year-old Armando made 19 appearances, including 14 starts, for the Red Bulls last season.
