New York Red Bulls add Chris Armas to coaching staff

HARRISON, N.J. -- The New Jersey Red Bulls have added former MLS and U.S. national player Chris Armas to their coaching staff.

New coach Jesse Marsch announced the choice on Thursday, saying Armas will join the team in Bradenton, Florida, where it is training for the upcoming season.

Armas retired after the 2007 season following 12 years in the MLS. He most recently was the women's coach at Adelphi University.

Armas was a six-time MLS All Star, helping Chicago win the MLS Cup in 1998. The New York native played in 264 MLS games with 12 goals and 48 assists as well as 37 playoffs games. The midfielder earned 66 caps for the United States.
