Revolution sign Tijuana star Bou to DP spot

The New England Revolution have signed Tijuana forward Gustavo Bou to a Designated Player spot.

ESPN FC sources reported on July 4 that the two clubs were in discussions about the Argentine striker and the Revs announced on Wednesday that a deal had been finalized.

"Gustavo is a versatile, creative forward with a proven history of success who will bring a high level of experience and leadership to the roster," Revolution sporting director and coach Bruce Arena said. "We have followed him for a number of years and have confidence he will be an integral part of our success this year and moving forward.

"We look forward to welcoming him to New England."

The signing of the Tijuana forward is a big coup for the Revolution and a sign that the club is investing under Arena.

In 55 matches with Tijuana, Bou has scored 21 goals and provided 14 assists.

The Revolution have had trouble scoring goals this season, having found the back of the net just 20 times, the third-worst rate in the MLS.

After a slow start to the year, they have shown improved form in recent weeks under Arena, the league's most successful head coach.

Currently in eighth place in the Eastern Conference on 23 points, the Revolution are now within striking range of a playoff spot.
