Ruud Gullit 'would like to take' Netherlands coaching job

Ruud Gullit has told beIN SPORTS that he would be interested in coaching Netherlands' national team and described the current situation as "a disaster."

The former Chelsea, Newcastle and LA Galaxy boss has not managed since leaving Terek Grozny in 2011, but captained Netherlands to the 1988 European Championship, scoring in the final, a 2-0 win against the Soviet Union.

"I think that anyone who gets offered this job would like to take it. It's an honour to be coach of the national team," he said. "I already was willing to help the national team. What they're going to do at the moment, nobody knows. There's a lot of names there who is circling around.

"My name has been there as well. Let's see what happens. First of all, on top of the federation, you know, the board and everything, has to be some clarity. At the moment, it's a disaster what happens there. A lot of people retreated from the job. Nobody knows who's responsible so that would also be a beginning."

Gullit also said he would be open to working alongside Louis van Gaal, who is helping the KNVB in their search for Danny Blind's successor, or former Barcelona and Chelsea assistant Henk ten Cate.

"Anyone can learn from Van Gaal. He has a good track record," the Sun quotes Gullit as telling De Telegraaf.

"Together with Henk ten Cate? That would be nice. It would also be very nice."

Netherlands are currently fourth in World Cup qualifying Group A after losing two and winning two of their opening five fixtures.

They still have to travel to unbeaten group leaders France but host Bulgaria and Sweden who are directly above them.
