Manchester United defender Daley Blind is set to captain Netherlands against England at Wembley Stadium on Tuesday night, having battled through an injury concern sustained in training.
The 26-year-old defender has started every United game since Oct. 28 but felt hamstring tightness while preparing to face England.
Blind sat next to his father Danny, the Netherlands manager, at the team's prematch news conference on Monday in London ahead of the England game.
Danny Blind was captain of Netherlands when they lost 4-1 against England at Wembley at Euro '96. But his son said: "I hope for a different result."
Daley Blind also gave his backing to United teammate Wayne Rooney, whose place in the England team has been a subject of debate after Harry Kane and Jamie Vardy scored against Germany on Saturday night.
The United defender told Sky Sports: "If a player like Wayne Rooney is fit, he is a very special player and can make any team in the world better. He has exceptional qualities and I think his place in the England team shouldn't be in question."
The Netherlands were beaten 3-2 by France in Amsterdam in their first match of this international break on Friday.
Daley Blind played 90 minutes in that game, while his United teammate Memphis Depay featured for 45 minutes for the Dutch team.
