Dutch legend Johan Cruyff on cancer battle: 'I am 2-0 up in the first half'

Johan Cruyff insists he is feeling "very positive" after his latest treatment for lung cancer.

The 68-year-old former Ajax and Barcelona star said that, after being told he had the disease, there was "no other alternative other than face it" and thanked medical staff and fans for their support.

"After several medical treatments I can say that the results have been very positive, thanks to the excellent work of the doctors, the affection of the people and my positive mentality," Cruyff said in a statement released by his management company.

"Right now, I have the feeling that I am 2-0 up in the first half of a match that has not finished yet. But I am sure that I will end up winning. "

Cruyff helped Ajax to become one of the best teams in world football when they won three consecutive European Cups from 1971-73 and was a star for Netherlands' "Total Football" side that lost 2-1 in the 1974 World Cup final to West Germany.

He coached Ajax and Barcelona where he lifted two Eredivisie titles, five La Liga trophies and one European Cup.
