Louis van Gaal return to Netherlands would be welcomed by Danny Blind

Danny Blind would welcome Louis van Gaal back to the Netherlands setup if the Dutch Football Association (KNVB) want the under-pressure Manchester United manager to be their new technical director.

While Van Gaal has insisted he will not resign at Old Trafford, his future is in doubt after a run of eight games without a win, including four successive defeats before Monday's 0-0 draw with Chelsea.

The Dutch FA could appoint a technical director as part of their restructuring after Netherlands, who finished third in the World Cup under Van Gaal, failed to qualify for Euro 2016.

Blind, who became Netherlands manager in the summer, was part of Van Gaal's backroom team as well as captaining his 1995 Champions League-winning Ajax team and feels he would work well again with the 64-year-old.

"With Van Gaal I could achieve a lot," Blind, whose son Daley plays under Van Gaal at Old Trafford, told Algemeen Dagblad. "He is in the top category. But there are also many other options to think of where the shoe could fit.

"I do not know if that will happen. I recently read a comment by Bert van Oostveen [KNVB FA director of professional football] about [appointing a technical director]. But I have not spoken to him about it personally.

"The key question is: what are the pillars of the work of a technical director? I have been one myself a couple of times in my career and basically it comes down to a buying and selling policy but that is at a club, not at the KNVB.

"It comes to the flow of youth players. You have to offer an exciting job and it must be someone with respect. It's difficult."
