Lorenzo Insigne can replace Gonzalo Higuain as Napoli spearhead - agent

The agent of Napoli forward Lorenzo Insigne says talks over a new contract are advancing, although he expects his full value to be recognised by the offer the Serie A club make him.

According to Antonio Ottaiani, who represents the Italy international, Insigne is now one of the key players in the Napoli squad following the sale of Gonzalo Higuain to Juventus. As a result, he expects his salary to match that of the Argentinian, as talks over the 25-year-old's future continue.

"Talks are progressing with Napoli and, like with any contract, it's a step-by-step process," Ottaiani told Radio Sportiva. "Obviously the first offer we received was not satisfactory, otherwise we would have already signed it.

"It's simple really: every club have a most important player -- a symbol upon which all the positive and also the negative responsibility lies. That was Higuain, but Napoli now do not have that figure and Insigne could be him.

"Lorenzo is worth as much as Higuain. He's worth the same to Napoli so they need to show us that with this renewal."

Insigne has scored 22 goals in 131 Serie A appearances for Napoli since joining them in 2012. Higuain found the back of the net 36 times in the league last season, when Insigne contributed 12.
