Napoli's Gonzalo Higuain hails 'magical night' against Inter Milan

Gonzalo Higuain hailed a "magical night" after Napoli beat Inter Milan to climb to the top of Serie A.

Argentina hitman Higuain scored twice - the first after just 65 seconds -- as Napoli leapfrogged their opponents with a 2-1 victory.

"It's a magical night. I am happy for the people, for us. I think it's deserved and we have to make the most of it, as now we are first," he told Sky Sport Italia.

The visitors had kept a clean sheet in their previous four matches but their rearguard was breached with Napoli's very first attack.

Jose Callejon brought down a poor clearance on the edge of the area and Higuain took the ball in his stride before smashing home a superb angled shot on the turn with his right foot.

Just after the hour mark Higuain made it two when he latched onto Raul Albiol's headed clearance, burst between two defenders and clipped home his 14th goal of the season.

The striker admitted Napoli are not ones to make life easy for themselves, however, after Inter almost snatched a point against the odds.

Despite having had Yuto Nagatomo sent off before half-time, the 10 men halved the deficit in the 67th minute when Adem Ljajic capitalised on some hesitant defending to beat Napoli keeper Pepe Reina at his near post.

And Inter twice could have snatched a point in stoppage time only to be denied by the woodwork, with Stevan Jovetic hitting one post and Reina dramatically pushing Miranda's header onto the other.

"We have to suffer, I don't know any team that doesn't suffer to win something," added Higuain. "We struggled at the end, Pepe Reina made an extraordinary save and we are happy.

"We could've scored more, Inter defended very well. We feel that we are working well and must continue like this.

"We're at the top of the table, where we wanted to be, but it's a long season ahead."

Inter boss Roberto Mancini blasted the decision to send off Nagatomo, who was already on a yellow card for a foul on Callejon when he clattered into Allan on the touchline.

"I think it was a wonderful game apart from the first 15 minutes, as we made a mistake," Mancini told Sky Sport Italia.

"Unfortunately the red card was absurd. It was an error from the referee, because the first yellow card was Jose Callejon simulating. The second Nagatomo could've been more careful and shouldn't have gone in like that."
