Napoli coach Rafael Benitez refuses to rule out future Paris Saint-Germain job

Napoli coach Rafael Benitez says he would not rule out taking a job in France's Ligue 1 in future as rumours resurface that Laurent Blanc's time as coach of Paris Saint-Germain is nearing its conclusion.

Benitez is out of contract in the summer and the former Valencia, Liverpool, Chelsea and Inter Milan coach currently refuses to discuss where he will be working next season.

Napoli are keen to tie the Italian down to another year at least, but he says he is focusing on bringing the current campaign to a successful end before sitting down with the Serie A club.

By then a lucrative vacancy in the French capital may have arisen, and Benitez told France Football that he would be attracted by a role in Ligue 1.

"Right now I'm coach of Napoli and I need to concentrate on that, but you can never predict what might happen," he said. "Your friends in England and Spain keep asking me questions about possible clubs in their countries.

"I've already coached in Spain and England and Italy, but I would have no problems discovering a new league if I were to receive a good offer, at the right time, with the right club."

During a two-year spell out of the game, Benitez admits he analysed the French league in great detail.

"I noted, for example, that Ligue 1 was the league in which most headed goals were scored," he said. "I did not have the time to work out why, but it's something I noticed. I think that there are some good players in Ligue 1 -- very fast, technically well prepared.

"However, their grasp of tactics is less developed compared to Serie A and, physically, the tempo is not as high as it is in the Premier League."

Benitez guided Napoli to third place at the end of his first season at the club, but missed out on a place in the Champions League group stages after losing to Athletic Bilbao in last August's playoff.

The Partenopei dropped to fourth at the weekend, although they are now just four points behind second-placed Roma and an automatic berth in next season's Champions League group stage, which was their declared goal for the season.

Benitez's men are also into the round of 16 of the Europa League where they will play Dinamo Moscow on Thursday, and they picked up a 1-1 draw at Lazio in the first leg of their Coppa Italia semifinal, having already beaten Juventus to lift the first piece of silverware in the Italian season -- the Supercoppa -- in December.
