MLSPU files grievance over Montreal Impact suspension of Lefevre

The Major League Soccer Players Union has filed a grievance over the Montreal Impact's suspension of defender Wandrille Lefevre.

At issue is a post from Lefevre's Instagram account in which he is holding an air pistol. The caption in French, referencing U.S. President Donald Trump, reads: "With Donald now in power...better safe than sorry."

The club announced on Wednesday morning that it was suspending Lefevre "pending further investigation," at which point the photo was made public. That drew the ire of MLSPU executive director Bob Foose, who told ESPN FC that it had filed a grievance on Lefevre's behalf.

"We filed a grievance immediately," said Foose via text message. "The team doesn't have the power to issue a suspension, and the way they went about it was full of other problems and CBA violations. [It] all added to the fact that a suspension in this case is unwarranted. We're in discussions with the league about all of it."

Lefevre, 27, is in his fifth season with the Impact and is a product of the club's academy. The French-born Lefevre became a Canadian citizen in 2015, and has made two appearances with Canada's national team.
