Monterrey bring back Antonio Mohamed as manager

Liga MX side C.F. Monterrey have hired Antonio Mohamed as their new manager, the club announced on Wednesday.

The club had been without a fulltime coach since Sept. 30 after firing Diego Alonso.

Los Rayados are in the midst of an uncharacteristic down season, sitting in 14th place in the Liga MX Apertura 2019 standings but just two points from the last playoff spot.

It will be Mohamed's second stint as Monterrey's manager, having previously led the team from 2015-18.  Under his initial rein, the club finished as league runners-up twice and won a Copa MX title.

Monterrey had been in the running for San Jose Earthquakes manager Matias Almeyda, who said on Wednesday that he would sticking with the MLS side for the 2020 season.
