MLS Goalkeeper of the Year: Minnesota's Mannone beats out D.C. United's Hamid

Minnesota United's Vito Mannone is the 2019 MLS Goalkeeper of the Year.

Mannone, 31, finished second in the league in saves (129) and conceded the third-fewest goals in the Western Conference (43). He registered 11 shutouts and put together a 259-minute shutout streak.

With his backing, the Loons reached the 2019 MLS Cup Playoffs for the first time and advanced to the U.S. Open Cup final for the first time.

This was the Italian goalkeeper's debut season in MLS following stints in England with Arsenal, Sunderland, Hull City and Reading.

D.C. United's Bill Hamid finished second in the voting, followed by NYCFC's Sean Johnson, Atlanta United's Brad Guzan and the New England Revolution's Matt Turner.
