Carlos Salcedo, Rodolfo Pizarro out of Mexico squad with injuries

Eintracht Frankfurt defender Carlos Salcedo and Monterrey forward Rodolfo Pizarro will both miss Mexico's friendlies against Uruguay (Sept. 7) and the United States (Sept. 11) due to injuries, the Mexican federation (FMF) confirmed on Saturday.

Salcedo suffered a foul early in Eintracht Frankfurt's 2-1 home loss to Werder Bremen on Saturday and was subbed off with an injury to his left ankle, while Pizarro also injured his ankle during Monterrey's 2-1 loss on Friday to Puebla, according to the FMF statement.

Tigres defender Hugo Ayala, who was part of the World Cup squad, was called up to the squad to replace Pizarro, with no one directly brought in for Salcedo.

Mexico's squad is due to meet up at the FMF's training complex just outside Mexico City on Sunday evening, with the team flying to Houston on Thursday ahead of Friday's match against Uruguay.

Interim coach Ricardo "Tuca" Ferretti has called up a largely young squad for El Tri's first games after the World Cup, with Salcedo's absence meaning there are only four Europe-based players in the squad.
