Gonzalez gets another Mexico call up for friendlies; Gio dos Santos out

Jonathan Gonzalez has been recalled by coach Juan Carlos Osorio for Mexico's upcoming friendlies against Iceland and Croatia.

Monterrey midfielder Gonzalez, a dual U.S. and Mexico national who pledged his international future to El Tri in January, made his debut with Osorio's side in a friendly against Bosnia-Herzegovina later that month.

LA Galaxy playmaker Giovani dos Santos was left off the 28-man squad after it was announced the former Barcelona academy product will be out for between one and three weeks with a hamstring injury, the MLS club confirmed on Wednesday.

Dos Santos picked up the injury in last weekend's 2-1 loss to New York City FC, going down under a challenge and then limping off at half-time.

Once again, there was no place for Atlas captain Rafa Marquez, who was one of 22 people sanctioned last August by the U.S. Treasury as a result of a multiyear investigation into a drug trafficking organization.

In all Osorio chose a majority of Mexico-based players for the team, with 15 of his call-ups coming from Mexican clubs.

Mexico will play Iceland in Santa Clara, California on March 23, then play Croatia four days later in Arlington, Texas.
