Mexico coach Osorio admits contact with other federations, eyes Premier League

Mexico coach Juan Carlos Osorio has admitted that he's turned down a contract extension with El Tri and has already had contact with other national teams.

The 56-year-old added that his future as Mexico coach after this summer's World Cup will depend on results, in an interview with The Sun.

"I have turned down the possibility of extending my contract with the Mexican association," said Osorio. "The reason being I want to be honest to my bosses.

"If we do well I would like to continue. But I have been contacted by other federations and I do have feelings for other places."

It's not the first time Osorio has said he wouldn't be extending his contract with Mexico ahead of the World Cup. The former Atletico Nacional coach said back in January that he didn't "want to force the Mexican federation to be responsible" for his salary "for the next four years."

Osorio mentioning contact from other national teams has already sparked some speculation about the vacant U.S. national team job, even if U.S. Soccer did indicate on Wednesday that the search at present is primarily for a GM to oversee the men's national team.

The Colombian told the San Antonio Express-News back in January that he would "seriously consider" the U.S. national team head coach role if it was offered and again alluded to the country this week, as well as expressing his desire to manage in England.

"My boys were born in the States, I would love to manage in England because the thing I miss the most is the day-to-day. The best thing in football is to make players better," he said.

"Ultimately, I would love to be in the Premier League."

Osorio is currently in Europe catching up with the progress of Mexican national teams players. He also found time to meet up with Sir Alex Ferguson.

Mexico's next games are against Iceland on March 23 and four days later against Croatia, with El Tri preparing for their World Cup opener on June 17 against world champions Germany.
