Mexico announces friendlies against Belgium and Poland in Europe

The Mexican national team is set for its first European friendlies in three years, with El Tri announcing games against Belgium and Poland to end the year.

The match against Belgium will take place on Nov. 10, though the location for the match has not been confirmed as yet. The game against Poland, to be played on Nov. 13, will be in Gdansk.

Mexico coach Juan Carlos Osorio has been adamant that his team needs as high quality opponent as possible in the games leading up to Russia 2018.

Roberto Martinez's Belgium is currently fifth in the FIFA rankings, with Poland one place behind.

El Tri is already qualified for the World Cup and is unbeaten atop the CONCACAF Hexagonal. Mexico closes out qualification with games against Trinidad and Tobago and then Honduras next month.

Mexico's most recent friendlies in Europe took place in November 2014, with El Tri defeating the Netherlands 3-2 and then losing 3-2 to Belarus.

The president of Mexico's football federation Decio de Maria also announced the team's pre-World Cup plan later on Thursday in a press conference.

El Tri will be playing a farewell game in Estadio Azteca, one friendly in the United States and two more in Europe ahead of Russia 2018, according to De Maria.
