Fans hurl abuse at Juan Carlos Osorio after Mexico's Gold Cup exit

El Tri coach Juan Carlos Osorio was greeted with abuse on return to Mexico City on Monday, following his team's 1-0 loss a day earlier to Jamaica in the Gold Cup semifinal.

"Osorio out!" went the cry of the fans gathered at the airport as the Colombian manager was rushed through to his awaiting transport.

"Go back to your country!" Screamed one person in a hostile atmosphere. "Go and do rotations in another country."

The surprise loss to the Reggae Boyz ended a disappointing summer for El Tri and sparked a wave of protests online from many pundits and former players.

A group of fans had waited for Osorio to exit the Rose Bowl stadium on Sunday and shouted the same "Osorio out!" chant. The situation is tense, although it doesn't seem like Osorio's job is at immediate risk.

Mexican federation (FMF) general secretary Guillermo Cantu spoke to the awaiting press at the airport and backed Osorio, stressing the positives of a summer that included a fourth-place finish in the Confederations Cup.

"Despite not achieving the objectives we had set, above all in the Gold Cup, I believe that there are very good things that we can continue to construct with the foundations that we have started to shape," Cantu told journalists.

Mexico's next game is a World Cup qualifier against Panama in Estadio Azteca on Sept. 1.
