Giovani dos Santos, brother Jonathan on Mexico squad list for U.S. match

Giovani dos Santos and brother Jonathan are both back in Mexico's 25-player squad to face the United States in the Rose Bowl on Oct. 10 in the CONCACAF Cup.

Carlos Vela has also been included in the squad despite reports on Thursday suggesting that he would be left out.

The Dos Santos brothers return after missing last month's friendlies against Trinidad & Tobago and Argentina, although Malaga's Guillermo Ochoa is again an absentee, likely due to his lack of minutes in La Liga.

The other major news from the squad announcement is that Hellas Verona center-back Rafa Marquez is included, as is PSV midfielder Andres Guardado. Both had been considered major doubts; Marquez due to a right adductor muscle injury and Guardado because of a problem with his left ankle.

The Mexican federation said in a statement that two players -- who have already been chosen but not revealed -- will be trimmed from the squad when CONCACAF announces the official 23-man squad on Monday morning, depending on the condition of Marquez and Guardado.

News had spread Thursday that Vela, who is yet to score this season for Real Sociedad, would be left out off the roster. The winner of the game will qualify for the Confederations Cup in Russia in 2017.

Following the clash against the United States, Mexico will face Panama in Toluca on Oct. 13, with the match scheduled to be the interim head Ricardo "Tuca" Ferretti's last in charge of the national team. No new manager has been named, although Colombian Juan Carlos Osorio has been strongly linked to the job.
