GUADALAJARA -- Chivas forward Marco Fabian will be joining Bundesliga outfit Eintracht Frankfurt, the Liga MX club and player confirmed on Friday.
"The train only comes by once," Fabian said in a press conference in Guadalajara. "Today I've decided to get on it."
The 26-year-old 2012 Olympic gold medal winner has long stated his desire to move to Europe and has been linked with various transfers since before the London games, although his form for Chivas since then has often been inconsistent.
Fabian said it was an "unforgettable" and emotional day, after leaving a club he joined at age 16. Chivas is currently involved in a relegation battle.
The forward, who can play on either wing or as an attacking midfielder, admitted he did speak to Bayer Leverkusen striker and former Chivas teammate Javier Hernandez about the move, as well as former Mexico international Pavel Pardo, who played in Germany.
Fabian said that there was a release clause -- reported to be $4 million -- in his contract with Chivas and thanked owner Jorge Vergara for not standing in the way of the move, although Eintracht Frankfurt have yet to confirm the transfer.
The player has 27 caps for Mexico and last played for El Tri in the Copa America in June.
Eintracht Frankfurt are currently in 15th place in the Bundesliga and facing a battle against relegation in the second half of the season.
Frankfurt and Fabian are scheduled to play Hernandez's Bayer Leverkusen on April 16.
