Ronaldinho strike sends Queretaro into the Liga MX Clausura semifinals

Brazilian legend Ronaldinho scored what turned out to be the goal that booked his Queretaro side a place in the semifinals of the Liga MX Clausura 2015 on Sunday.

Ronaldinho sent a free-kick towards goal from 30 yards in the 83rd-minute, with Veracruz goalkeeper Meliton Hernandez flapping at it and dropping it into the net to make the score 2-1 to Queretaro. It looked more like a cross than a shot, but Ronaldinho celebrated wildly with teammates on the sideline.

The score finished 2-2 on the night and 4-3 on aggregate to Gallos Blancos, who will now play Pachuca in the semis.

Ronaldinho started both legs of the quarterfinal against Veracruz, having been a substitute in Queretaro's previous four matches.

In Sunday's other Clausura quarterfinal second leg, Chivas overcame local Guadalajara rival Atlas 4-1 to reach the semifinal.

Marco Fabian netted three times for Chivas in the first half in a game that was marred after halftime by violence, as Atlas fans invaded the pitch and the match was suspended for 15 minutes.

Chivas will face Santos Laguna in the other semifinal.

Santos defeated Tigres 1-0 on Saturday, with Djaniny Tavares scoring the only goal in the 69th minute. Santos won 2-1 on aggregate against a Tigres team that had finished the regular season in first position.

Also on Saturday, Pachuca knocked out reigning champion Club America, defeating it 4-3 in Estadio Azteca in the second leg and 7-5 on aggregate.

The weekend results mean the top four from the regular season table have all been knocked out at the quarterfinal stage.

The semifinals first legs are set to played over Wednesday and Thursday, with the return on Saturday and Sunday, although the Liga MX will confirm the times and days on Monday.
