Club America beat Tigres UANL 3-1 on aggregate to win 12th Liga MX title

Mexico City is celebrating tonight as Club America won their 12th Liga MX title -- the most in league history -- beating Tigres UANL 3-0 at the Azteca Stadium to secure a 3-1 aggregate win after the second leg.

Michael Arroyo, Pablo Aguilar and Oribe Peralta scored goals for America against Tigres, which was handed three red cards in the second half and saw its 15-game unbeaten streak end.

Arroyo got the scoring going in the 35th minute with a superb left-footed solo effort that he blasted past Tigres' goalkeeper Nahuel Guzman.

Aguilar then added to America's tally in 61st minute off a set-piece ball in from Rubens Sambueza to make it 2-0.

Tempers flared on both sides of the ball in the second half with Tigres players initiating some hard tackles. Three minutes after the second goal, Tigres' Hernán Burbano pulled down a breaking Miguel Layun, who had a clear path to the goal and was subsequently shown the red card.

Damien Alvarez swung his arm at America defender Ventura Alvarado in the 67th minute to reduce Tigres to nine players, with goalkeeper Guzman following him into the dressing room when he was shown his second yellow five minutes later.

With Tigres down to eight men, America took complete control for the remainder of the match and club hero Peralta added a third goal as his team ran down the clock to take home the club's 12th title in its history.
