Sources: Boca, River, America, Chivas in new Cup

Argentine giants Boca Juniors and River Plate are set to face off against Mexico's biggest clubs Chivas and Club America in a competition dubbed the Colossus Cup, sources have confirmed to ESPN.

The details of the event were first reported by Univision Deportes, with an official announcement expected on Wednesday.

The competition will kick off with River Plate playing Guadalajara team Chivas on June 28 in San Diego's County Credit Union Stadium, with Club America facing Boca Juniors on July 3 in the New York area, which according to Univision will be at Red Bull Arena.

River will then play America and Chivas face off against Boca on July 6 in Seattle's Centurylink Field, according to Univision, although ESPN hasn't been able to independently confirm the third date.

The tournament pits four of the American continent's most important teams, with all in preseason ahead of new seasons in their respective leagues.

Boca and River's Superclasico rivalry is well known and the two played out an intense Copa Libertadores final last year, the second leg of which eventually had to be played in Madrid, while Mexico City club America leads bitter Guadalajara rival Chivas in number of Liga MX titles won by 13 to 12.

Chivas are also involved in the International Champions Cup later in the summer and will face off against Roma (July 16), Benfica (July 20) and Atletico Madrid (July 23), with games shown on ESPN.
