One hospitalized after Tigres, Monterrey fans clash before Clasico Regio

One man is in serious condition after fans of Tigres and Monterrey clashed before Sunday's Clasico Regio rivalry match in Nuevo Leon, Mexico.

The Nuevo Leon attorney general's office said the man had been taken to a hospital but did not describe his injuries.

Videos on social media showed violent scenes between groups of rival fans about 6 miles from Tigres' Estadio Universitario.

Fans dressed in Monterrey gear were shown chasing Tigres supporters. A car with Monterrey fans running behind it came close to running over some people as they tried to flee.

One video showed a group in Monterrey shirts beating a man on the street, who appeared to be left unconscious. The man was also hit by an object thrown while he was on the ground.

Liga MX issued a statement to repudiate the violence and request an investigation into those responsible. The league said it was already in communication with authorities.

The game ended in a goalless draw on Sunday.
