Veracruz owner Kuri suspended one year from football-related activities

Veracruz owner Fidel Kuri has been suspended for one year from all football-related activities after an outburst directed at Edgardo Codesal, the technical director of the Mexican Football Federation's (FMF) refereeing commission, during last Friday's Liga MX match against Leon.

Kuri's temper boiled over when a late red card was shown to Veracruz's Daniel Villalva. TV footage from the VIP section of the stadium showed Kuri shouting in Codesal's face and a scuffle ensued as the latter tried to leave the stadium.

Kuri is banned from having any participation in FMF and Liga MX meetings and will not be allowed to attend games.

Veracruz also received a fine of just under $8000 USD.

Following the incident, Kuri demanded that Codesal should be removed from his position and stated he didn't regret his actions in subsequent interviews.

He then apologized last Sunday in an open letter and suggested he wouldn't appeal any sanction that came his way.

This isn't the first incident involving Veracruz and referees. In the quarterfinal of the playoffs of the Apertura 2015, the club was unhappy at a number of decisions in the series against Pumas.
