Brazil and Panama open Pan Am Games with victories

Brazil and Panama opened the Pan Am Games' men's football competition with group stage wins on Sunday night.

Brazil cruised by hosts Canada 4-1. Luciano Da Rocha scored four minutes into the match to put Brazil on their way, before Romulo Pacheco doubled the advantage in the 38th minute.

Canada had chances on the counter-attacke, but it was Brazil who scored just after the break, Clayton Da Silveira lobbing the keeper to increase the lead to 3-0.

Molham Babouli scored a consolation goal for Canada in the 58th minute before Erik Nascimento capped the scoring for Brazil in the 89th minute.

Earlier, Fidel Escobar scored in stoppage time to give Panama a 2-1 win over Peru.

Jorman Aguilar scored early in the second half to give Panama the lead, before Gonzalo Maldonado equalised in the 54th minute, setting up the dramatic finish.

The Pan Am Games are an under-22 tournament featuring eight teams in two groups. Group B, featuring Mexico, Paraguay, Trinidad and Tobago and Uruguay, began play on Monday.
