Melbourne City confirm Curtis Good as final signing ahead of 2018-19 A-League season

The return of defender Curtis Good to the A-League signals an end to Melbourne City's off-season shopping, and the start of their title challenge.

Good returns to the club six years after his form for Melbourne Heart won him a long-term deal with Premier League powerhouse Newcastle United.

The sky was seemingly the limit for the Socceroos prospect but a procession of injuries have derailed the centre-back's career.

"I learnt a lot over in the UK but unfortunately my opportunities were curbed," he said.

"I'm motivated to work hard in training and remind everybody what I can do."

Good returns to a club transformed.

Gone are the recycling bin ice baths, replaced by a league-leading training facility at Bundoora where the 25-year-old has been trailing.

Despite just 18 senior starts since 2012, he's shown enough to convince Warren Joyce to hand him a one-year-deal.

"Curtis is a quality defender who still has a lot of potential," the City coach said.

"With the support of our coaching staff and the rest of the players, Curtis has the chance to push and challenge for a place in the team and set himself back on the right track."

Good made one Socceroos appearance in 2014, debuting for Australia in the same match as Alex Wilkinson and Massimo Luongo.

A hip injury suffered on that occasion, a 4-3 loss to Ecuador in London, was one of his many injury ailments.

Joyce said Good's arrival was the end of the club's work in the transfer market, headlined by the capture of Ritchie de Laet and fringe Socceroos Riley McGree and Mark Birighitti.

"I'm looking forward to competing for my place and helping the side push for success this year," Good said.

"This is a club with big ambitions and has grown a lot since I was last here -- we have to aim high this year."
