New York City's new striker David Villa insists the prospect of playing at the new franchise enticed him ahead of other contract offers. (1:35)

MELBOURNE, Australia -- Spanish striker David Villa says he's fit to make his debut in Australian football's A-League on Saturday after a four months break since his last match.

The 32-year-old Villa, Spain's leading international goal-scorer, trained for the first time Monday with his Melbourne City teammates after joining the club on a 10-match loan.

Villa last played when Spain beat Australia 3-0 in the group stage of the World Cup in June, but told a news confernce in Melbourne he has worked with his conditioning team and is ready to make his A-League debut against Sydney FC on Saturday.

He said "I feel good, a little bit tired from the long trip, but focused on the game and teammates. I feel prepared. I've been working hard."
