Michy Batshuayi enjoying Fletcher link-up, worried about Euro 2016 chances

Marseille striker Michy Batshuayi is enjoying playing alongside Steven Fletcher, but also revealed his fear that he might miss out on a place in Belgium's Euro 2016 squad.

Batshuayi has started to find the back of the net again since Fletcher completed a loan move from Sunderland to the Ligue 1 club earlier this month.

The pair started a game together for the first time in Marseille's Europa League round-of-32 second leg against Athletic Bilbao last Thursday, with Batshuayi opening the scoring only for his side to bow out 2-1 on aggregate.

Before Fletcher's arrival, Batshuayi had been Marseille's one recognised striker and the former Standard Liege player believes they can continue to work together.

"In the dressing room, we said with the other players that we liked this new system," Batshuayi told Le Journal du Dimanche. "He and I are complementary. He's not a stereotypical British player who plays with his head. He's strong on the ground, technical.

"I'm happy to have played 90 minutes by his side because on the day he arrived I understood that he was coming to play with me -- not to replace me."

Batshuayi is Ligue 1's second top scorer with 13 goals this season to add to the four he hit in the Europa League.

He has scored twice in his two appearances at international level so far -- against Cyprus in March and Italy in November -- but Belgium boss Marc Wilmots has regularly warned the player that he must improve his all-round game.

Batshuayi is worried that he might be left out of Belgium's squad for Euro 2016 following the return to fitness of Liverpool's Divock Origi and the emergence of Gent's Laurent Depoitre, with Everton's Romelu Lukaku currently Wilmots' first-choice striker.

"It's a big challenge," Batshuayi said. "In the Marseille dressing room, the French players who are involved [Steve Mandanda and Lassana Diarra] are sure to go. I'm the only one who's doesn't know for certain. I have to earn my place but we have a big nucleus [of players] with 35 candidates."
