Jurgen Klopp rejects Marseille job after Marcelo Bielsa exit - advisor

Jurgen Klopp has rejected Marseille's advances as the Ligue 1 club seeks a successor to Marcelo Bielsa, according to the former Borussia Dortmund coach's advisor.

Marseille president Vincent Labrune reportedly contacted Klopp on Saturday evening, shortly after Bielsa had surprisingly announced his resignation in the immediate aftermath of the Ligue 1 defeat to Caen.

After leaving Dortmund at the end of last season and declaring he wanted to take a sabbatical year, Klopp has decided not to take Marseille up on the opportunity.

"Marseille showed great interest, but the time hasn't yet come for Jurgen to get back into things," Klopp's advisor, Marc Kosicke, is quoted as saying by DPA.

With Klopp out of the running, L'Equipe reports Marseille are expected to turn their attentions to former Italy coach Cesare Prandelli, who was sacked by Galatasaray in November 2014, or Guus Hiddink, who resigned as Netherlands boss in June.

Hiddink, 68, could take on a role closer to that of a technical director, delegating the day-to-day training of the squad to his assistants, L'Equipe claims.

The sports daily also reports former Roma and Zenit St. Petersburg coach Luciano Spalletti and ex-Chelsea and Schalke boss Roberto Di Matteo have both been proposed to Marseille since Bielsa's exit.
