Marcelo Bielsa: Marseille have yet to make me an offer to stay

Marseille coach Marcelo Bielsa has said Champions League qualification is "not a condition" for him to stay at the club, but added that he had not so far received an offer.

The 59-year-old signed a one-year deal last summer, but his future has been the subject of speculation with the club having slipped out of the top three -- the Champions League qualification places -- in the closing stages of the season.

With two games left Marseille are fourth, two points behind Monaco, and Bielsa said club owner Margarita Louis-Dreyfus had said she wants him to stay next season.

The former Argentina and Chile coach told a news conference, reported on the club's official website: "It was an informal meeting.

"The president talked about the project for next season. Fundamentally, it's linked to whether we're in the Champions League or not, which could help in terms of finances. Qualification would make things easier for the club.

"To be precise, I will say that I will only reply to a proposition from the club, if one is made, and I will analyse it afterwards."

Bielsa said he wanted to "thank Madame Louis-Dreyfus for saying she would like to see me stay" and praised the "ideal" working conditions at the club.

And he added: "I have explained that, after that, it has to be translated into an offer. Qualification for the Champions League is not a condition for me to continue working here, because otherwise it would be me who would be imposing conditions and I impose none."

French media have reported that Marseille will turn to either Andre Villas-Boas of Zenit St. Petersburg or former Napoli and Inter Milan coach Walter Mazzari should Bielsa leave.

Andre-Pierre Gignac, this season's leading scorer, and Andre Ayew are expected to leave Marseille when their contracts expire in the summer, with the club seeking to slash their wage bill.

Florian Thauvin is only two years into the five-year contract signed when he joined from Lille in 2013, but could also leave.

Tottenham have been linked with a move for Thauvin, 22, who has recently found himself on the bench after having been first-choice in midfield during the early part of the campaign.

But the player has said he wants to establish himself at the Stade Velodrome, explaining: "My desire is to stay and succeed."
