Manchester United are in discussion with fans over the possibility of postponing the date for season ticket renewals while uncertainty continues over how the coronavirus pandemic will impact the football calendar.

The Premier League has been suspended until April 30 with the season extended "indefinitely" in an effort to play the campaign to a conclusion.

United have sent out renewal letters to existing season ticket holders ahead of the 2020-21 season but with no indication of when it might start, supporters are asking the club to push back the May 1 deadline.

The Manchester United Supporters Trust have also asked the club to consider how they will reimburse fans for games that are cancelled or played behind closed doors, as well as support for season ticket holders who are facing financial concerns because of the pandemic.

United have four Premier League home left to fulfil this season as well as the second leg of their Europa League round-of-16 tie with LASK Linz and any future ties should they progress.

A statement issued by MUST said: "We are in discussion with Manchester United regarding season ticket renewals and related issues arising from the coronavirus pandemic.

"We are raising issues but would like feedback from season ticket holders to make sure we are covering all the important matters arising."

A United spokesman later confirmed that "the club is reviewing dates, policies and procedures around season ticket renewals for next season, along with the administrative processes should games that are currently postponed be either cancelled or played behind closed doors," and added they were "consulting with MUST as part of that review."

United have already committed more than £1 million to ensure around 3,000 casual workers are not out of pocket as a result of the football shutdown.

The gesture will see United pay match-day and non match-day casual workers if Premier League games are cancelled or played behind closed doors.
