Man United's Rashford on Ronaldo comparison: It's a compliment

MANCHESTER -- Marcus Rashford has played down Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's comparison with Cristiano Ronaldo by insisting he still has a long way to go to match the feats of the former Manchester United star.

Solskjaer said it was "easy" to compare Rashford and Ronaldo after the England forward scored his 13th goal in his last 14 games in the 2-1 win over Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium.

Rashford has reached 50 United goals in fewer games than Ronaldo but the 22-year-old would swap that for the eight major honours the Portugal international won during his six seasons at Old Trafford.

"As a forward player ever since I've come through they always compare you with forwards that have been in the past and it's something that you don't really have much of an input on," Rashford said.

"All you do is try to do your best on the pitch and then people outside do the talking about it.

"It's just a thing people like to do with forwards so it's obviously nice, definitely a compliment. I understand how far I've got left to go to reach the heights they reached so I am very clear-minded and just focused on myself."

Rashford needs one more goal to make it his most prolific campaign since making his senior debut in 2016.

He is in the best goal-scoring form of his career after netting 13 goals in his last 14 games but the England man insists it will mean very little unless United can turn this season into a success.

"I think just the moments where we've obviously won trophies stands above this moment now," Rashford said.

"The results have still been inconsistent but the performances have been getting better so we can see where we're heading."

Everton's visit to Old Trafford on Sunday will mark 4,000 consecutive games that United have included an academy graduate in their squad.

Despite having only three full seasons under his belt, Rashford is one of the senior players in a group that includes a number of teenagers.

Solskjaer's young team made an impressive statement with wins over Tottenham and Manchester City and Rashford has told his teammates to build on the momentum against Everton.

"Obviously there's a lot of young players in the squad and in the starting XI so we're sort of learning as we go along," Rashford said.

"But it's the first time we've had back-to-back wins in the league so hopefully that can start something off for us and we can get used to just getting results and performing."
