Man United defender Shaw: There's more to come from me

Manchester United defender Luke Shaw has said he can play even better than he did in his man of the match performance against Liverpool on Sunday.

Shaw, 23, helped keep Mohamed Salah so quiet that Liverpool's top scorer was substituted with 10 minutes of the 0-0 draw to go.

"I think I've still got another level," the England international said. "I don't think I am really at my best, and I know what I can do when I'm at my best.

"Of course I am happy with how it went today, but there's still more to come from me especially, and that's me being honest.

"I feel I can do more but the only thing I need to focus on is myself, keeping myself in the right condition and keep pushing myself every day.

"I'm still quite young. There's always room to improve, and that's what I want to do -- keep improving."

Shaw has been a regular at left-back this season, making 29 appearances, more than he has managed in a season since joining from Southampton in 2014.

He has been rewarded with a new contract that keeps him at the club for another five years, and teammate Romelu Lukaku believes he is a contender to be the club's player of the year.

"He has been brilliant since the start of the season," Lukaku said. "Throughout the summer we kept in touch and I remember when he was in New York he was sending me videos of him running on the treadmill.

"I was in Russia for the World Cup and I got three videos and I saw someone who was going to come back and be good.

"He scored in the first game of her season against Leicester City and he has never looked back.

"He has always had the potential of being one of the best left-backs in the world. He has had his injuries but he's playing regularly now, and I am really happy for him.

"You cannot look at Luke as a prospect now -- at his age he is a top player and is consistent. What more do you want from him?"

United caretaker manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer -- who stretched his unbeaten run in the Premier League to 10 games -- has earned praise for his attacking approach since replacing Jose Mourinho in December.

But after their back-to-back clean sheets against Chelsea and Liverpool, Shaw said United also had plenty of steel.

"At Chelsea we did that, going 2-0 up so early [in the FA Cup at Stamford Bridge]," he said. "I think we showed resilience to be able to keep a clean sheet against a team like that.

"Of course today we all know how unbelievable Liverpool's attack is and I don't even think David [De Gea] had a save. That's credit not just to the back five, but to the whole team for doing their job."
